What Potential Achievements Could Lando Norris Have Realized with a More Advantageous Grid Position in Mexico?

The recent Grand Prix in Mexico had everyone on the edge of their seats, not least because of the thrilling performance by Lando Norris. However, one question that has been circling among fans and experts alike is – what could have been achieved if Norris had secured a better grid slot?

As we all know, racing strategy is an intricate web of decisions and calculations made before and during the race. It’s about understanding your car’s strengths, anticipating rivals’ moves, adjusting to changing conditions on track 🏁, and making split-second choices that can mean the difference between victory or defeat.

Bernie Collins, former Head of Race Strategy at Aston Martin delved into this subject with a focus on Norris’ run in Mexico. Collins took it upon himself to analyze data from various aspects such as speed traps, tire wear rates etc., looking for any clues that might shed light on this intriguing query.

Norris started 8th on the grid at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit but managed to finish higher up than his starting position would suggest possible. This was thanks in part due to some smart strategic calls from McLaren team coupled with Norris’ own brilliance behind wheel.

However, it begs us to wonder whether things could have turned out even more favorably for him had he begun further ahead? After all isn’t there a saying ‘Well begun is half done’?

Collins believes that indeed there were opportunities missed due to his lower starting position. He points out several instances where having a clear track ahead would’ve allowed Norris greater control over pace without needing worry about traffic or getting stuck in DRS trains which are common occurrences when you’re mid-pack.

Moreover being upfront provides added advantage during safety car periods allowing driver pit without losing too much ground – something crucial especially given how unpredictable races can be these days with numerous incidents happening around them leading multiple safety car deployments

Additionally another key benefit being high up order lies within first few laps. We’ve seen countless times how chaotic starts can be, and being ahead of this chaos often means you’re less likely to get caught up in it.

In conclusion, while Norris indeed put forth a commendable performance at Mexico Grand Prix, the data suggests that a better grid slot could have potentially led to an even more impressive result. Yet as we know in racing nothing is guaranteed; all variables need align perfectly for things go your way.

But one thing’s certain – with his talent and determination, Lando Norris will continue to make waves in Formula 1 regardless of where he starts on the grid! His future certainly looks bright and fans around world eagerly anticipate what next race has in store him.
